Often, they must leave behind essential mobility equipment to escape their abuser, leaving them without the means to walk, visit doctors, or secure long-term help.
We are asking for the purchase of new walkers to provide loaner walkers to domestic violence shelters and safehouses, ensuring that every survivor who needs mobility support can access it immediately. These walkers, which cost less than $40 each, will belong to the shelters and be loaned to individuals in need who are taking steps to secure their own permanent walker.
The walkers will serve as a temporary solution, enabling survivors to attend vital doctor appointments and access local charities that provide no-cost mobility aids and disability supplies to those in need with a doctor’s note. These charities offer a range of mobility equipment, including walkers, canes, crutches, arm-crutches, and wheelchairs, ensuring that survivors receive the best possible support tailored to their needs.
